Description
It Had To Be You by Isham Jones & Gus Kahn 🎺 ♫ arranged for jazz sextet by Rich Willey.
Fun, swinging arrangement of this great old standard by Isham Jones and Gus Kahn. Sidewinder-inspired intro before trumpet pickup, key of A♭.
Blowing changes include optional Sidewinder feel in measures 5–8 and measures 21–23. The coda is based on Billie’s Bounce . . . sure to get a chuckle from hip jazz audiences.
Difficulty level medium to advanced due to chord changes for improvisation. Medium level of ability required to play ensembles. This is a 🎺 trumpeter-as-vocalist arrangement where the trumpet player can either play or sing the melody (or if you have a vocalist, the trumpet can sit out on the melody and play the first solo).
Trumpet, tenor sax, trombone and rhythm section parts come in a PDF that you’ll be able to download immediately upon submission of your order.
Here is a free PDF of the vocal part: It Had To Be You Vocal / Free PDF
Here is a ♫ sound clip from a rehearsal with trumpet on the melody:
Rich Willey on trumpet, Matt Olson on tenor sax, Rick Simerly on trombone, Richard Shulman on piano, Mike Holstein on drums, Byron Hedgepath on drums, Ozzie Orengo on congas.
