Cryin’ The Blues for 17-piece big band composed and arranged by Rich Willey
Interested in a down-home bluesy chart that features the whole band and can be played by an average or above high school jazz band? Do you have a soloist in each section chomping at the bit to play a couple of blues choruses?
If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, this chart will have your big band swingin’ and groovin’ the first time you play it.
Suggested price: $50.00
Description
Rich’s big band composition/arrangement Cryin’ The Blues is in the dance book of The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and has been played and replayed and thoroughly edited.
It is written to be playable by your average high school. The lead trumpet part goes to a high D (trumpet pitch) and the other parts pose no extreme range difficulties.
A groovin’ medium-tempo blues chart, Cryin’ The Blues has flexible solo space, but as written has two-chorus solos for trumpet, guitar (or piano), trombone and alto saxophone. The chart has no D.S. or D.C. and reads straight down. Includes full, transposed score. 148 written measures. Tempo: ♩ = 132. Playing time 7-8 minutes.
Each horn section has its own “soli” part followed by a two-bar solo break. Solo backgrounds are kept simple, and are designed to make the passing around of solos easy and practical.
